Three Stories – memory between awareness and oblivion

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION:

The proposed activity “Three Stories” consists of three phases preparatory to understanding and reworking the memory of the Shoah. The first phase aims to explain the fundamental events that marked the persecution of the rights and lives of Italian Jews, and in particular those from Padua, between 1938 and 1945. The second phase involves the viewing of the film “Tre Storie” (2020, 30 min)* which collects the testimonies of three women, one a direct witness and two second-generation ones, involved in the reconstruction of their personal and family histories. The third and final phase aims to fully understand the facts recounted in the three different stories and to re-elaborate them, making them one’s own and thus acting as the custodians of these testimonies, through a moment of dialogue and reflection – first collectively and then in small groups – on the impressions aroused.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To bring students closer to history and the events of the years of Nazi-Fascist persecution of Jews, with a focus on the case of Padua
  • To confront three cases of “micro-history” that relate to the general facts
  • Re-elaborate the recounted memories with awareness so that the students can in turn become witnesses and true bearers of memory

* The docu-film “Three Stories. La memoria tra consapevolezza e oblio” (Three Stories. Memory between awareness and oblivion), directed by Filippo Tognazzo and Raffaella Rivi, was produced by the Jewish Community of Padua and Zelda Teatro thanks to the support of the Veneto Region, and was filmed in 2020, collecting the testimonies of Anna Lisa Sacerdoti, Lia Sacerdoti and Sara Parenzo.
